Here is what I have been thinking about, which led me to build a world around April Fool's Day: A prank doesn't create anything. It finds something that was already there. The gap between what you believe about yourself and what is visible from outside - the prank didn't make that gap. It just made it visible. For one moment. To the room. That moment is what the prank came for. The joke is the surface. The payload is something else entirely. My wife knows this. She has known it for twenty-something years. She built the prank around what I cannot help but show - the man who takes ideas seriously, who would receive worm salesman as a viable next chapter and nod along before the seam showed....
